Arma de dos filos ¡ perdición para muchos, jerarquía para otros.
¡ Como el lenguaje que usas todos los días te puede llevar a la cumbre de liderazgo o sumirte en la catacumba de la vulgaridad y la falta de respeto.
Me he encontrado, precisamente, con que el lenguaje que se está utilizando ha cambiado, se ha ido adaptando, si lo queremos ver desde ese punto de vista, pero desde mi muy particular manera de ver las cosas, se ha ido adaptando de una manera que ya no es la adecuada. Muy grotesca, muy vulgar, muy común, muy falta de personalidad. Fíjense que hace poco estuve en dos recorridos, en dos proyectos diferentes, con distintos stakeholders y con distintos desarrolladores.
Me refiero a contratistas principales o inclusive el Project Manager en uno de ellos, en el momento de estar interactuando con el stakeholder, en ambos casos coincide. El stakeholder, el encargado de que el dinero fluya, el que contrató en ambos casos al proveedor del servicio como project manager y como gerente de proyecto, son relativamente de la misma edad, el lenguaje que usan no presenta ni una pizca de educación y respeto, en ambos casos son de edades similares, pero son posiciones dentro del proyecto totalmente diferentes y esto no exime lo que les voy a comentar a continuación.
En el momento de estar comentando cosas y poniéndonos de acuerdo en diferentes aspectos, tanto técnicos como de calidad, alcances, pagos, administración, varias cosas relacionadas con el proyecto. En toda la plática, se estuvieron refiriendo el uno al otro como, oye, güey, pues sí te encargo esto, güey. ¿Estamos de acuerdo, güey? Oye, güey, te voy a pedir esto, esto, esto. Oye, güey, no sé cómo se diga en otros países. No he hecho esa investigación, honestamente.
Si ustedes tienen por ahí algo que me pueda ayudar a ilustrar lo que estoy comentando, déjenlo en los comentarios, Pero, ¿a qué se refieren con güey? Aquí en México le decimos, güey, a los toros ya viejos.
En realidad, güey, decíamos antes, como una ofensa. Le decíamos a la gente que era muy tonta, muy perezosa, que que no entendía las cosas, que era muy lento. Pero era una palabra ofensiva, si te decían, oye güey ¡ ; decías tú, oye espérame, ¿por qué me estás diciendo güey?
Es como llegar a decir otras palabras que que, la verdad, ustedes han visto cuál ha sido mi línea aquí en el podcast.
El español
No hay necesidad, créanme. Para esto es es lo siguiente, el idioma español, que es uno de los idiomas más hablados en el mundo, es muy rico.
Tenemos muchas palabras para definir muchas más. El español, según estadísticas, lo hablan aproximadamente quinientos millones de personas en el mundo. El número de palabras aproximado anda entre doscientas mil a trescientas mil palabras.
El inglés, por ejemplo, por supuesto, como es el idioma más común para comunicarnos unos con otros, internacionalmente me refiero, lo hablan mil quinientos millones de personas.
El inglés, según el Oxford Dictiorary, tiene quinientas mil palabras, tiene más que el español. El chino, chino mandarían, por supuesto, es el que el que hablan mil cien millones de personas. Pero el chino nada más tiene ochenta y cinco mil palabras, en su diccionario. El hindi, el que hablan en la India, son seiscientos millones, y tiene más o menos ciento veinte mil palabras. El árabe, que lo abren trescientos diez millones de personas, tiene también alrededor de quinientas mil palabras. Ustedes se fijan, el español es muy rico. Tenemos muchas palabras para definir con presición lo que queremos expresar.
Nosotros absorbimos el español de una combinación muy especial. Tiene raíces latinas, por supuesto, pero también estuvo absorbiendo palabras de muchos otros idiomas, por supuesto, del árabe. Ustedes saben que en España la los árabes, cuando estuvieron mucho tiempo en la península ibérica, que fueron los conquistadores, los moros.
Estuvieron muchos años, quinientos años, si mal no recuerdo. Pues, en muchas palabras las incorporamos. Por otro lado, hemos incorporado muchas palabras del inglés, que ya en la Real Academia le llamamos anglicismos. Y, por supuesto, hemos incorporado muchas palabras de nuestras lenguas indígenas. En todo Latinoamérica, en España, por supuesto, cuando tienen ellos sus regiones.
No son, por supuesto, de raíces indígenas, pero ellos también tienen sus palabras muy específicas de acuerdo a sus regiones. Esta capacidad que tiene el español de crear palabras nuevas, es cuando empiezan a mezclar unas con otras. Entonces, ya lo hemos visto y en la actualidad ya es brutal lo que está pasando con el Internet, en donde ya hay muchas palabras que que ya las las adoptamos, y así son.
Por eso les una de las cosas que les pido es que aprendan inglés, es importante, para que mantengamos mucha de la comunicación completa. El inglés resalta mucho su vocabulario porque tiene mucha mucha extensión de palabras, pero igual que nosotros, adopta muchas palabras.
Que ya lo vimos, es uno de los más hablados en el mundo, tiene un número de palabras en chino mandarín que es menor, pero este idioma se compensa con un sistema de caracteres, Su idioma escrito es a base de caracteres fonéticos, no son letras específicamente. Y a la hora de combinarlas, agregan ellos mucha riqueza a a su idioma.
¿Por qué es importante esto, Project Manager?
Porque el lenguaje es una habilidad que deben ustedes cultivar. Es una herramienta para transmitir información, pero puede ser también su tumba.
Nosotros somos project managers y, como project managers descalzos, pretendo crear una cultura dentro de nuestra comunidad, de dejar de hablar con groserías.
No tiene sentido. En español, de veras, es tan rico y tenemos tantas palabras que, inclusive, podemos insultar a alguien sin decir groserías.
De veras, créanmelo, yo lo he hecho. Yo he podido insultar a alguien, desgraciadamente, cuando estoy muy enojado, muy molesto. Sí he llegado a humillar a a personas sin necesidad de hablar con groserías.
Pero no es el caso. El caso es que podamos comunicarnos sin este tipo de palabras. Utilicemos las palabras de la manera adecuada. Hablen ustedes en sus presentaciones con sus stakeholders, pausados, amplíen su vocabulario, lean más.
Yo sé que estamos acostumbrados a los chats, al WhatsApp, al Instagram, a leer cosas de post cortitos, a estar escuchando algunas cosas en el teléfono, déjenlo un rato, tomen los libros, lean, por favor. Lean más, les va a ayudar en muchos sentidos.
Estoy preparando, por supuesto, un un libro relacionado con todo lo que tiene que ver con comunicación y el lenguaje es muy importante.
La comunicación verbal por supuesto, desde su posición tiene que proyectar autoridad. Tenemos una posición en donde nos tenemos que ganar esa autoridad, pero sobre todo ese respeto. Y, créanme, una vez que ustedes se paran enfrente de un equipo de trabajo y empiezan a hablar con propiedad, claramente, fuerte, con palabras que realmente crean impacto; en el momento en el que ustedes están transmitiendo la información, dando órdenes, generando información para que se ejecuten las cosas sin que haya dudas, se presentan como una figura de autoridad que merece respeto. En lugar de estar vacilando, cotorreando, este, ¿saben qué, güey? Pues tenemos que echarle muchas ganas porque tenemos que…….
¡¡¡ No, no, no, no, no, a ver, a ver, señores. Estás hablando con profesionales, pero sobre todo date tú tu lugar, habla correctamente.
Y sobre todo, cuando estás hablando con el stakeholder, cuando estás hablando con la gente que te contrató, con tus jefes, te puedes llevar muy bien con tus jefes, pero son tus jefes ¡¡¡. Ya se los he dicho en otros programas. Adentro del proyecto, Alguien les paga hay una jerarquía. Tienen ustedes subordinados y tienen ustedes jefes. Mantengan su posición. Que sean ustedes respetados para que así puedan ustedes ejercer su autoridad.
Y si se pierde el respeto y les pierden el respeto a ustedes como project managers, se van a meter verdaderamente en un problema.
Ya va a ser muy difícil que ganen nuevamente esa autoridad. Yo les quiero proponer lo siguiente, project manager descalzos. Practiquen unos días. El reto sería setenta y dos horas. Vamos a hablar setenta y dos horas sin decir una sola grosería.
Traten ustedes dentro de su vida, porque esto va para todo, no nada más es para la acción del trabajo, en su vida personal, con su pareja, con su novia, con su esposa, su esposo, con sus hijos, inclusive, porque también he visto cómo se manejan algunas personas con sus hijos y es verdaderamente triste, dramático, da pena ajena.
Durante estas setenta y dos horas, no digan groserías y traten inclusive de ver qué palabras pueden utilizar. Véanse elegantes, siéntanse elegantes, siéntanse en control de lo que están pensando y están transmitiendo. Les va a ayudar también para comunicar de manera más tranquila y más precisa todas las instrucciones que tengan que girar y con mucha más autoridad.
Tómenlo en cuenta, Project Managers descalzos. La verdad es que para mí esta transición ha sido lamentable, desde la manera en la que hablaban mis abuelos, hasta lo que se escucho ahora de las «nuevas generaciones». Por eso quería yo comentarlo con todos ustedes. Lean más.
